Brian and Ashley...
My two biological kids are Brian and Ashley, we came into our wonderful blended family when Brian was 10 and Ashley was 8. They have always been so close, they really never would leave each other with out saying I love you. Now that they are 23 and 21 they always seem at odds, and it breaks my heart. If I help one of them out with something the other gets angry about it. If things are going well with one the other isn't thrilled about it. When one needs help the other is annoyed. I don't understand how they went from being there for each other no matter what, to wanting almost nothing to do with each other. I know that growing up and having adult relationships and marriages changes everything, but when it comes right down to it, these two are missing out. The thing is some days I am really so sad about this, did I do something to cause the resentment or did their dad's death drive some bizarre wedge between them? Does anyone have any experience with this? Do they get back to normal ever?

To paint or not to paint, hmmmm....
I found this beauty for $8!
I am in love!
I want to refinish it some how but, I love, love this center.
So I don't know, maybe just a whitewash?
Any advice? Please share!

My version of a beauty...
I loved this beautiful arrangement that Haley at The Autocrat did! So I decided to do my own version.
I started with this, the way I am with sugar it is amazing it made it into the vase!
And here is my result.
What do you think?

Me, me Monday -Kitchen additon...Vote 4 Me
I love my little kitchen but I feel a bit of a remodel on the horizon, when we bought the house the counter tops were brown and we had brown carpet, that my daughter spilled syrup on within the first week of living here, haha. It really is so much better than it was before but I am thinking white cabinets may be in the near future, we'll see.
This is the counter that welcomes you into my little kitchen, so Welcome, come in and enjoy the tour.
This is looking in from the dining room.
Sink area-
My window-I love it and I just found the little blue chicken at Savers, isn't she adorable?!
My island, it is always decorated, I just like it that way!
This is the door into the laundry room and it is still a project in progress but I think it is so cute! Those are the handprints of most of my grandkids, it will have them all before we are finished!
Close-up of the saying.
I love this open cabinet with my Grandma Gibson's China and I really like the pot rack hanging under it, so cute!
Oh, I almost forgot please go vote for me at this linky Patches of Pink. I am just starting this party joining and I would love a win!! Thank you!
I hope you have enjoyed the visit, you know I always enjoy your company!

Serious Sunday thoughts...Changes are a coming...
After much consideraton I have decided to go with the popular choice and change my little bloggy's name. It will now be Halacy's Comfy Cottage. It's simple and I like it. I decided to change because people were thinking my name was Nama, and it was.... to Taylor (now she call me Grandma Halacy, sniff, sniff, she is growing to fast), but to everyone else I am Shelly. I love talking about my Comfy Cottage and my Comfy Life, so I hope you will keep following along cuz I think the longer I do this the better I might get! Thank you to all my followers! I am getting excited because I am getting sort of close to that 100 mark and I have the funnest giveaway planned. I really just can't wait!!

Saturday Silly...
Okay, so I love purses and my family thinks it is a bit of an extreme but my theory is that you can never have too many purses. Well two weeknds ago my little two year old angel grandbaby Taylor
was playing at our house when I came home from shopping with a darling new purse draped over my shoulder and Tay said "Wow grandma you really like new purses, huh?" Out of the mouths of babes!
Happy Saturday,

Fun Friday Finds....
Thrifting was a blast as usual this week. I found a few things that will be beautiful after I give them a little love, so I will show those later, but here is some of the rest.
First this little beauty, isn't she lovely?
And these, I am an Easter Fiend, Easter is my Favorite Holiday, I love, love it!
Aren't they adorable?
I totally fell in love with this girl, she has so much character and best of all she has a purse!!
Last but not least, I got this jacket for 2 bucks, it is light weight so I can wear it year round and it is very basic so I can wear it with many things. Please excuse that the shirt I am wearing looks a bit like a tent so I look huge, but I really did feel good in this outfit.
Have a super weekend all my bloggy friends!

Spray paint...gotta love it!!
So one of my favorite bloggies is Debbie from Debbiedoos and she is having an awesomne linky party on spray paint, so unfortuneately (not really, cuz I love, love blogging) I will have two posts today!
Here is what my project started with, this
and these (okay, the paper is different but I forgot to take a before pic, so this is an example)
and this is what I came up with!
I spray painted the cabinets and then Modpodged the scrapbook paper(which I love, isn't it beautiful?)to them.
Here are some close-ups
This one (sorry for the glare)
and this one
Aren't they awesome? The butterflies were an afterthought but I love them, I think they give it a 3-D effect.
Well there it is my first of two posts for today!
I hope you enjoyed it!

Wednesday Hodgepodge
Wednesday Hodgepodge
Here are the questions for this week's Hodgepodge...
1. Sunday was the first day of spring. So they say. Ahem. What is your favorite outdoor springtime activity? Breakfast on the Veranda (the patio, I just like the sound of Veranda).
2. Who would you want to come into your kitchen to cook dinner for you? My Grandma Jones, I loved cooking with her! Miss you Grandma
3. When did you last fly a kite? Wow, when my kids were little
4. What topic puts you to sleep faster than anything? Hunting and anything mechanic. I really just can't understand the language of mechanic and the hubster starts planning for the October hunt in January, ughhh!
5. Which flowers do you associate with specific people, places, or events? Wild roses remind me of the hubster because that is the first flower he gave me. I love tulips because they mean Spring and Easter to me. I think of Ashley when I see Gerber Daisys. I don't know there are way to many to list!
6. What significant historical events took place during your elementary school days? Nixon resigned from his presidency. Jonestown Massacre. Bicentennial Celebration.
7. Do you swear? Do you pseudo-swear? (You know crap, shoot, friggin'?) Totally yes to pseudo, and I try not to really swear but if something really hurts me, upsets me, or angers me to that point, it will happen. I am sorry.
8. Insert your own random thought here. I really don't like it when you find something you really like or that really works and they discontinue it. This goes from things like migraine meds all the way to hair conditioner, ughh.
Happy Wednesday All!

Hugs,

Sink curtain...
I love, love the look of having a curtain under your sink! However, I have tiny little curious people and mischevious animals that refuse to stay out. So this is my solution!
This is the before
This is the after
I tried to take a pic of the process but you couldn't really see it. I just got a little tiny curtain rod and this curtain, the door remains under the curtain.
I love it!

Me, Me Monday...On Tuesday! haha...
Okay this week I will be sharing my Dining Room. This room is the reason I finally gave in to buying this house. For some reason I just envisioned our newly blended family eating dinner together here every night. And we did and there are alot of memories in this room.
This room was originally very ugly, I don't have any pictures that I can find but it had this really wierd paint technique that look like white worms on the walls that were purple (I am totally serious).
Here is the first picture from the kitchen, (I am noticing the curtain is tilted, that will be fixed tonight, thank you very much)
The table has 4 large leaves so it fits most of us at the holidays!
View from living room, I know it seems very cozy in here and I contemplate selling the church bench often, but right now, there he sits.
I made the plate rack out of Taylor's crib, when she came over she said "Grandma why is my bed on your wall?", she is such a funny, smart little girl!
These 2 pics are looking in from the guest room
I am thinking eventually I would like a China Cabinet on this wall, we'll see.
Here are some pics of all the salt and pepper shakers I have collected, I love them!
I don't know how this got started, but I don't see it ending real soon!
Well thank you for visiting, you know you are always welcome.

Saturday silly...
One day as we were driving down the street on our way home, my then 15-year old daughter said "Oh mom we should stop and pick some spaghetti" she was talking about the tall salt grass weeds on the side of the road! Haha, lol!

Fun Friday Finance...
Doesn't that seem like a bit of an oxymoron having fun and finance in the same sentance and then putting finance with friday! What am I trying to do ruin my fridays?!! It may not sound fun but I am really having a blast with it! I have decided I was born for thrifting- Woo-hoo! I have come to realize though, that you can thrift everywhere. I found the hubster a jacket for $7.50 at Walmart- you just can't beat that, and we all know that the All A Dollar type stores are heavenly, right? So I think I will be sharing finds from all kinds of fun places! So here are a few of the things I have found
I found this little pitcher at a thrift store for $2
This little piggy cost a big $3Isn't he sweet?
This little rooster was a little pricey at $10 but I just couldn't pass him up he still had the tags on him and I fell in love with him at first sight
Maybe it was his little cowboy boots - too cute!
And last but not least, I got this jacket at Savers. I love it because it is lined and light weight enough that I can wear it all year round.
Have a super weekend!
